THE END OF AN AGE
107 years ago, the empire of Humankind was toppled before a great interstellar storm. Very few remember the Solar System that existed before, and much of the more grandiose elements of their tales are disregarded as nostalgia. Space elevators, interplanetary highways, colossal starships that ventured beyond the System to distant stars beyond: these supposed monuments to humanity’s ingenuity were wiped from the map by the Flood, along with any record of their existence.

The Old Net was scrambled by the high-energy waves, erasing much of our history and culture. As a result, the time before the Flood (despite its golden mystique) is now most commonly called The Dark Age.

AN EXPLOITED DISASTER
47 years after the Flood began, it abruptly ceased. For almost half a century the worlds had stood still and everything that happened next was too fast to stop. The corporations, who were the only ones who had a means to not only survive but thrive in the midst of The Flood, expanded their influence around the System, promising peace and stability to the cities that were still clinging to life. The money had all vanished with the Net, but the corps had resources and they were offering them (almost) freely, just in exchange for a few signatures from governmental authorities.

Following what is now called The Corporate Takeover, those signatures became a foothold with which the Omnigarchs could climb to overwhelming, inappealable power.
